C.S. Lewis Initiative
The C.S. Lewis Initiative promotes intellectual growth, spiritual formation, and cultural engagement through studying the theological and literary contributions of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and other key figures in The Inklings. This is accomplished through:
- Student-led endeavorsSuch as the newly formed Lewis and Tolkien student society
- Curriculum enhancementsA number of courses on Lewis, Tolkien, and fellow Inklings are being designed and offered from philosophical, theological, and literary perspectives
- Community engagementSuch as The Portland C.S. Lewis Society, Inklings and Poetry, and other ventures
- Scholarly research and conferencesSuch as Sehnsucht: The C.S. Lewis Journal, The Undiscovered C.S. Lewis Conference, a research guide, and smaller events
New Course! Discovering Narnia: Intellect and Imagination in C.S. Lewis
Discover Narnia from fresh and unexpected perspectives in this exploration of C.S. Lewis’s beloved Chronicles and the ideas, imagination, and influences behind them. Combining lectures, honors-style seminars, and visits from leading international guest speakers, the course invites students into serious but lively conversation about one of the 20th century’s most enduring imaginative worlds. No prerequisites; this class is led by Dr. Jason Lepojärvi and open at either the 200- or 400-level (THEO 285A/485B), Wednesdays 6–9 p.m., Spring 2027. Enroll at !

The world’s only peer-reviewed journal devoted exclusively to the study of C.S. Lewis and his writings. Submit a paper proposal, and access all volumes for free.
The Portland C.S. Lewis Society
The Portland C.S. Lewis Society, founded in 1972, is the second-oldest C.S. Lewis Society in the world and remains the oldest C.S. Lewis Society that continues to meet in person.

The Inklings Library at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Fox University
Behind a Hobbit-inspired door in the ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Fox University's chapel lies the Inklings Library, home to a collection of faith-centered works, many by the renowned authors C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. The bookshelves hold a diverse array of books, all generously donated from the personal collection of President Robin Baker.
